Ono’s Star-Studded Sports Therapy Conference Launches New Bachelor’s Degree

To celebrate the launch of its new Bachelor’s degree in Sports Therapy, the first in Israel, Ono Academic College hosted the first-ever Sports Therapy Conference at the Kiryat Ono campus on Monday, October 8.  The all-day seminar included sessions in Hebrew and in English from Israel’s top experts in the fields of sports medicine, physical therapy, and rehabilitation, and featured a keynote address from guest speaker Dr. Adam Annaccone, a Performance Healthcare Consultant for the Dallas Mavericks, on “The Role of Athletic Trainers in Sports.”  Dr. Annaccone also gave a workshop about “The Importance of Movement Assessments in Rehabilitation and the Return to Play Process.”

Later in the program, several Israeli athletes joined Dr. Annaccone on stage for a panel discussion about the field of Sports Therapy and its relevance in international sports.  The other panelists included Adi Bichman, a former Israeli Olympic swimmer, who now serves as the Head of Ono’s Sports Therapy Department; Andy Ram, the first Israeli tennis player to win a senior Grand Slam event and a former member of Israel’s Davis Cup team; Shay Doron, a professional basketball player for the Maccabi Ashdod Basketball Club of the Israeli League and the first Israeli to be included in the WNBA draft; and Yotam Halperin, an Israeli former professional basketball player, who currently serves as the Sporting Director for the Hapoel Jerusalem Basketball Club of the Israeli Premier League.

The well-attended event drew students of all ages, many of whom are excited to begin their studies in the fields of treatment, rehabilitation, early childhood, sports, and education to prepare for a rewarding career in the field of Sports Therapy.
