Ono Conference Provides Guidance for Parents of Child Athletes

On Tuesday evening, February 26, Ono Academic College hosted a conference for the parents of child athletes entitled “How to Raise a Child Athlete and Cope with the Challenges Along the Way.”  More than 200 parents attended the event, which featured celebrated athletes, successful coaches and medical professionals who discussed issues ranging from nutrition to exercise regimens to developmental psychology.

Following fascinating presentations by Nir Schneider, a sports nutritionist and lecturer at Ono Academic College, as well as a former coach and athlete, and Tamar Podoli, an experienced clinical and developmental psychologist, the parents in attendance asked questions to a panel of elite athletes, including Andy Ram, a three-time Grand Slam Tournament champion; Adi Bichman, Head of Ono’s Sports Therapy Department and a former Israeli Olympic swimmer; Omri Afek, Head of Ono’s Soccer Program, a sports commentator, and a former member of the Israeli national soccer team; and Shmulik Brenner, basketball coach for Maccabi Rishon Lezion and a former Premier League basketball player.
