B.O.T. IN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
Ono Academic College is proud to be the first private academic institution to receive accreditation from the Israel Council for Higher Education to award BOT degrees in Occupational Therapy. Occupational Therapy is a therapeutic-rehabilitative profession; its purpose is to improve a person’s ability to function and quality of life. Today’s occupational therapists play key roles in processes of diagnosis, therapy and rehabilitation for a wide variety of populations and work in many different contexts within the health, education and welfare systems, according to their professional specializations, as well as in private clinics, clients’ homes and a variety of community frameworks.
Many occupational therapists work as members of interdisciplinary professional teams, together with professionals in many fields including medicine, nursing, education, physical therapy, communications disorders, psychology, music and art therapy and movement therapy. Occupational therapists are employed in a wide variety of frameworks depending on their field of specialization, including hospitals, child development centers, rehabilitation institutes, educational institutions, various community frameworks, patients’ homes and private clinics. Professionals in this field diagnose and treat children and adults – of all ages from premature babies through the elderly – with developmental disabilities, injuries, physical illness and psychological, social or emotional difficulties. Occupational therapists also work with healthy people in prevention programs and programs for improving the quality of life, accessibility and community participation. In the course of their work, many therapists guide students, participate in clinical research, teach and research human occupations.
The goal of the Occupational Therapy Department at Ono Academic College is to educate excellent occupational therapists in a variety of specializations, to acquire both an in-depth theoretical background and a high level of professional competency. To this end, we have constructed an up-to-date, practical educational program in occupational therapy that includes knowledge in the social and behavioral sciences, medicine and occupational therapy.
The systematic training received by students in the program includes broad familiarity with additional health professions, including communications disorders and physical therapy, so they develop outstanding skills for work as part of an interdisciplinary team. Furthermore, both the teaching and the clinical experience specially emphasize development of skills for therapy and rehabilitation in the community, a unique community perspective and its application through community involvement.
